It's finally time to buy a new lawn mower blade, and the options available online or at your local dealer can be overwhelming. Similar to a haircut, you can choose from different blades to change the look of your lawn. Don't worry, we're here to guide you in making the right choice when shopping for a new set of lawn mower blades.

Low lift vanes

Low-lift blades are a special type of blade primarily used for mowing in sandy conditions. Low suction will limit the amount of dust and noise using less engine power. This allows the grass to remain grounded enough for mow side discharge.

Blades that generate more suction, such as high-lift blades, generally degrade faster in similar terrain. Dust and sand can wear out the blade faster than expected.

So if your yard has these qualities, your best bet is to use a low lift when replacing the original machine blades.

Medium (standard OEM)

A medium lift blade is the most typical or original blade used on your machine when you buy it. These tend to have a slight curve at each end, which will allow some air to pass through. This will pull the draft more than your low lift blade type, leaving a more precise cut.

We refer to this type of lawn mower blade as an all-in-one solution, similar to the lift profile of the original machine blade.

Thicker or more consistent grass is recommended for best use. If you're bagging, mulching, or draining, this blade does it all!

High lift blade

The high lift blades will allow maximum airflow through the mower deck, creating the perfect definition for your newly mowed lawn. These blades require more or higher horsepower for optimum performance and are recommended for thicker or higher turf conditions.

High lift blades are not suitable for sandy terrain. Due to a large amount of airflow, the blades deteriorate rapidly when used on this terrain.

If you want to pack or throw grass clippings long distances, high lift blades are the go-to mower blade type for your yard.

Mulching blades

A mulch blade is a multipurpose blade that cuts grass into finer pieces, allowing you to replenish nutrients in the soil. Since these blades use less suction, wet conditions should be avoided as clogging can occur while you decking and bagging.

The mulching blade is designed to bring grass into the deck, allowing the blade to cut the clippings multiple times. If you are cutting more frequently, this style of blade is recommended to allow your lawn to be properly fertilized.

Similar to medium (standard) blades, you can use these blades for bagging, mulching, or unloading.
