How Do I Replace a Lawn Mower Deck Belt?
Even if you don't have a lot of experience, it's not difficult to replace one of the belts. You need to make sure you have some wrenches and some free time to work on it.

It is advisable to take pictures of the straps and springs before taking anything apart. There is a photo that will help you when you go to install a new belt.

Standard lawn mower deck belt replacements are as follows:

Set the height of the mower as low as possible.

Remove the cover from the mower deck.

Pull out the old belt. Do this by releasing the tension and pulling out the left spindle pulley.

Find the lawn mower belt inert arm and remove the hardware above it so that you can reach the hook

Remove the spring and put the mower deck back to the highest position

From here, you'll need to get your wrench out and do some work. Loosen the hardware attached to the idler pulley so you can remove this part. You will need to secure the head of the bolt under the deck to remove the nut. Whenever you get under the deck of your lawnmower, be careful.

With this nut, you can put the mower deck back in the lowest cutting position. Remove all hardware from the strap retainer and remove it. You should now be able to remove the belt from the clutch pulley located under the engine.

From here, we want to put the new belt in place. Additional steps help to remove the old one. Steps you can take to help resolve this issue include:

Place the belt against the rearmost idler pulley. Reinstall the belt retainer.

Install the belt on the clutch pulley on the back of the unit.

Put the idler back in place and raise the mower deck to reinstall the idler assembly. Only finger-tight here.

Reach under the deck and hold the head of the bolt to help place and tighten the nut securely.

Lower the mower deck as much as possible.

You can then reinstall the belt retainer into the idler arm and put the snap hook back into place. Check that the belt has the correct tension at this point and that it is well aligned with all of the mower's pulleys. Reinstall everything on top of the mower and you're good to go!
